Raymond G. Heeren, 77, of Monticello, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Monticello.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Monticello, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Caleb Schewe will officiate.
Ray was born at John McDonald Hospital on June 19, 1944, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Albert and Louella (Aman) Heeren. He was baptized and confirmed his faith at St. John's Lutheran Church and graduated from Monticello High School in 1962. Ray went to work for Bohlken Electric, then Cuckler Mfg, joined the U.S. Army Reserves and worked for Jakes Standard and Georgia Pacific. He also spent a summer working for Forest Services in northwest Wyoming, a ranch in Texas and worked for Naylor Seed Co.
Ray married Mary Jayne on Dec. 14, 1969. Together they farmed and recently had a retirement sale closing a lifetime of memories on their homestead. Ray was a 4-H and FFA member, serving on the County Extension Council, 4-H committees and Farm Bureau board.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; children, Daniel Heeren of Monticello and Michael (Amy) Heeren of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Jessica and Joseph Heeren; niece, Penny Carrington of Ankeny; in-laws, Ivan Jayne of Olin, Nancy Willey of Oxford Junction, Larry (Dorothy) Jayne of Toddville and Phyllis (Mike) Capron of Anamosa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Galen Heeren, in 1999; brother, Glen Heeren; parents-in-law, Ray and Frances (Massiker) Jayne; and sister-in-laws, Darlene Canfield and Barb Peterson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be directed to Jones Regional Medical Center, Monticello FFA chapter or Jones County 4H.
