Former Washington Mayor Jaron Rosien was handed a deferred judgment with two years of probation, as well as 50 hours of community service, a handful of fines, and a place on the state’s sexual offender registry at a sentencing hearing in Washington Friday morning.

Several Eastern Iowa communities are passing ordinances requiring commercial properties to install backflow prevention systems. Without valves, a loss of pressure in public water lines could result in chemicals, wastewater or biological liquids flowing into drinking water systems.

A criminal complaint filed in the case Jan. 24 said the incident took place between Rosien and a 27-year-old active service member, referred to in the record as “AB,” at Rosien’s bar, J.P.’s 207, the night of Jan. 7 and early morning of Jan. 8.
