George Anthony Lafler Sr., 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, of complications of Parkinson's disease. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Urbana, Iowa, to Carl and Frances Lafler. George worked for Gee Grading and Excavating Co. of Cedar Rapids for 31 years, retiring on May 31, 1995, as a teamster.
He married Louise Myers of Cedar Rapids on Sept. 26, 1975. They recently celebrated 46 years of marriage.
Surviving are five children with his previous wife, Sue Lafler, Kathy Lafler, Ronna (John) Strain, Lori (Dan) Wallerich and Tony (George Jr.) Lafler. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, many great- and great-great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Laura (Mike) Chalder and Bill (Amy) Myers; six stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-great grandchild; and his brothers, Chuck (Kay) Lafler of Central City and Don (Ann) Lafler of Marion.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Berniese and Hilda; his brothers, Bob and Bill; and two infant brothers.
