Ellen E. Ellis, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, after a lengthy illness.
Services are through Iowa Cremation. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Ellen requested that there be no services.
Ellen was born April 11, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Jacob (Jack) Benzinger Sr. and Gretchen L. Dolley. Gretchen was later married to L.F. (Ted) Lodge. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and married Hubert E. Kurth, and later married Clair R. Ellis. Ellen worked at National Oats (Ralston) for 43 years in the mill.
She was an active member of ABWA and after her retirement, she was a member of Retired American Business Women's Association. She loved cats and reading and traveled to all states except Hawaii. She also took an Alaskan cruise. Ellen belonged to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
Ellen is survived by her nieces, Jacqueline (Mike) Sirota of Oceanside, Calif., Jacqueline's son, Todd (Kelly) Sweet, and his daughter, Mackenzie, and Kelly's daughter, Keagan of Cedar Rapids, and DiAnna Benzinger, and her daughter, Rachel (Matt) Cochran of Marion, children, Daniel and Lucas and son, Nathan (Tara) Rucker and sons, Boedi and Anders of Dubuque. She is also survived by her good friend, Marilyn Lodge; special friends, Jeff and Julie Nelson and Dave and Dixie Estrem; and friend, Donna Orr.
Her parents and brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Carol Benzinger, preceded her in death.
Memorials may be sent to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, or to the Linn County Animal Shelter. Ellen was always an avid cat lover.
