Mark Devoe Fishel passed away on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at Banner Del Webb Hospital in Sun City West, Ariz.
Mark was born at St. Luke's Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on April 19, 1956, to parents Merle and Sara (Bouslog) Fishel who, along with his nephew Michael, preceded him in death. He was the oldest brother of Matthew D. Fishel (Sharon), Amy R. Olson (Randy), and M. Daniel Fishel. The family moved to the farm outside of Marion in 1968 where they enjoyed many adventures. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1974 and managed the Linn Co-op service station in Marion. In 1981, Mark moved to Palmer, Alaska, and worked for many years at Palmer Chevron.
While in Alaska, he met and married the love of his life, Margo L. Gregorich. In 1982, they met at Barry's Resort on Finger Lake. They married on the Summer Solstice (June 21, 1984) and celebrated their 37th year this past July. Together they helped raise a son, Adam Gregorich (Annette). One of his joys was spending time with their grandchildren, Alex and Aurora Gregorich. He also enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, Kirk Fishel, Michael Fishel, Chad Fishel, Andrew Olson, Rachel Olson, McKenna Fishel, Mason Fishel and Myles Fishel.
Mark treasured being in nature and the outdoors. He loved watching a thunderstorm roll in. Riding snow machines, hunting, fishing and gardening were some of his joys. He won ribbons for his vegetables at the Alaska State Fair. Another highlight was winning the Iditagolf Tournament in Wasilla, Alaska. Additionally, he loved attending the Iditarod restart. After watching, he enjoyed strolling over to the Knik Bar and listening to Alaska Ballader, Hobo Jim. Mark loved his many special pets. He also liked to watch the Seattle Seahawks and the Iowa Hawkeyes football teams.
The family will host a Celebration of Life tentatively scheduled for June 18, 2022, in Marion, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation to the Marion Parks & Recreation Department, 4500 N. 10th St, Marion, IA 52302.
