1. Slippery Rock is picked to finish sixth in the NCAA Division II Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s East Division. Its team nickname is The Rock. It didn’t play last season because of COVID-19. It was 15-14 in 2019-20. Its football team is 8-1.
2. Iowa’s likely starting lineup will be Keegan Murray, Joe Toussaint, Patrick McCaffery, Filip Rebraca and Patrick McCaffery. That’s a second-year sophomore, a third-year junior, a third-year sophomore, a fourth-year senior and a sixth-year senior.
3. This will be Iowa’s first Carver-Hawkeye Arena men’s basketball game open to the public since March 3, 2020.
4. Slippery Rock is located in Slippery Rock, Pa., a city of about 3,000 people about 50 miles from Pittsburgh.
5. Iowa’s regular-season starts Tuesday with a 9 p.m. — yes, 9 p.m. — home game against Longwood. It is the first of six straight home games through Nov. 26 against teams ranked from 223rd to 347th by KenPom.com.
