5 Texas players to watch against Iowa State

AMES — Texas. Is. Back.

Actually, no it's not.

Texas has lost three straight games and has a 4-4 overall record this season despite having some of the best talent college football can offer.

Here are five players to keep an eye on when the Longhorns visit Ames on Saturday to take on Iowa State.

RB Bijan Robinson

Speaking of the best talent college football can offer, Bijan Robinson is a workhorse for the Longhorns.

Robinson just barely trails Iowa State’s Breece Hall as the conference’s most productive running back.

Robinson has rushed for 967 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging an eye-popping 5.9 yards per carry. The sophomore has failed to rush for 100 or more yards in just two games this season.

Robinson also is a threat out of the backfield, catching 15 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns.

LB DeMarvion Overshown

Texas’ team defense isn’t good — it’s eighth in the Big 12 in yards per play allowed and seventh in points allowed — but DeMarvion Overshown is great.

He is fourth in the Big 12 and leads Texas in tackles with 7.6 per game. The senior is everywhere on the field. He’s second on the team in tackles for loss with 4.5 and has two fumble recoveries and 1.5 sacks.

WR Xavier Worthy

Xavier Worthy could make an argument to be listed first on this list. He’s been electric this season.

The freshman from Fresno, Calif., leads the Big 12 in receiving yards with 657 and seven touchdowns. What makes his production more impressive is he only has 33 receptions, which is sixth in the Big 12.

Over the last three games, Worthy has 404 yards and three touchdowns on 18 catches.

LB Luke Brockermeyer

Luke Brockermeyer hasn’t been quite as productive as Overshown, but Brockermeyer’s production is nothing to dismiss.

The junior has 59 tackles, just two behind Overshown’s 61, and actually leads Texas with five tackles for loss.

To go with his impressive ability against the run, Brockermeyer is arguably just as good against the pass. He has two interceptions, which is second on the team, and a pass breakup.

K/P Cameron Dicker

It’s not often a kicker makes the five-players-to-watch articles, but Cameron Dicker is an exception.

First, he has an awesome nickname: Dicker the kicker.

Second, he’s actually a really good kicker.

Dicker has made nine of his 11 field goal attempts this season (both misses were from more than 40 yards away). The senior also is Texas' punter, but his last name doesn’t rhyme with punter, so that aspect of his game gets overlooked.

But Dicker the punter averages 49.6 yards per boot, which is second in the Big 12 and has 12 punts of over 50 yards, which leads the Big 12.
