Shakira Watkins in March 2022 pleaded guilty to assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. The first-degree burglary charge was dismissed.
Two Cedar Rapids women are accused of breaking into a Marion apartment Oct. 16 and using a metal pole to beat up a woman.
McKenzie Tamayo, 24, and Shakira Watkins, 24, both of Cedar Rapids, face charges of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
They are accused of forcing entry into a Marion apartment Oct. 16 and assaulting a woman with a metal pole and ripping hair from the woman’s head, the Marion Police Department reported.
Officers who went to the apartment noted the occupant had visible injuries consistent with her account of what happened. The woman also had photos of Watkins and Tamayo outside her apartment shortly before the incident and officers found witnesses who corroborated the woman’s report.
