He has started just four college games and has a career scoring average of 7.2 points, but Iowa sophomore forward Keegan Murray is on the 10-player Big Ten men’s basketball preseason all-conference team.
Murray, from Cedar Rapids, made a big impression on people last season. He was on the league’s five-player All-Freshman Team after being the only bench player in the nation to amass 200 points, 35 blocks, 25 steals, and 15 3-pointers. He averaged 5.1 rebounds though he played just 18 minutes per game.
Defense was the 6-foot-8 forward’s calling card as a freshman. Murray had 39 blocked shots and 26 steals.
Murray is joined on the 10-player preseason All-Big Ten team by preseason Player of the Year Kofi Cockburn of Illinois, and these eight others:
Andre Curbelo, So., G, Illinois
Trayce Jackson-Davis, Jr., F, Indiana
Eric Ayala, Sr., G, Maryland
Hunter Dickinson, So., C, Michigan
Caleb Houstan, Fr., G/F, Michigan
E.J. Liddell, Jr., F, Ohio State
Jaden Ivey, So., G, Purdue
Trevion Williams, Sr., F, Purdue
Ron Harper Jr., Sr., G/F, Rutgers
Murray is 57th in the CBSsports.com ranking of the nation’s top 101 players. Five of the players listed above are in the top 11, with Cockburn second to Gonzaga’s Drew Timme.
Northern Iowa guard AJ Green is No. 99.
