MARK TIERNAN WEEDE
San Antonio, Texas
Mark Tiernan Weede, 73, passed away of COVID-19 pneumonia on Sept. 3, 2021,
at Kindred Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Mark was born July 4, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Lowell and Mary Jean (Tiernan) Weede. Mark attended St. Pat's School and graduated salutatorian from Lasalle High School in 1966. Mark then received his B.A. in business administration from the University of Iowa in 1970. Mark lived in El Paso, Texas, St. Louis, Mo., and settled in San Antonio, Texas, where he married Patricia Hurlbut on May 21, 1990. Mark spent most of his career as an IT programmer/systems analyst with the University of Iowa, El Paso Natural Gas and USAA Insurance until his retirement in 2010.
Mark and Pat enjoyed traveling the U.S., many cruises and an epic trip to Africa with his favorite sister. Mark was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and White Sox fan but his passion was golf, playing three and four times a week. When Mark wasn't playing in the Valero Texas open, he was frequently a marshall in the Open. Earlier this year he was pleased to play at Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina prior to the PGA Championship there. He served as the secretary of the Olmos Golf Association in San Antonio, Texas, as well as a member of the San Antonio Association Retired Golfers. Mark will forever be remembered for his soft spoken quick wit (you better be listening), sense of humor and his gentle and kind manner.
Mark is painfully missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Patricia, San Antonio; son, Trevor Weede, Austin, Texas; stepdaughter, Adrienne Haupt; grandsons, Zachary, Aubrey and Emory; his brother, Jim Weede (Karen) Quincy, Ill.; his sister, Maureen Henderson (Doug), Marion, Iowa; his beloved cats, Huntley and Mindy; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, many loving friends and golfing buddies.
Services were held Sept. 25 at Peter Loring Mortuary in San Antonio. Graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Garden of the Cross, Cedar Memorial, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Cedar Valley Humane Society (cvhumane.org).
