Dwayne Milton Bourret passed peacefully at his daughter's home in Hiawatha on Oct. 20, 2021.
Dwayne was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa, where he attended Central High School and Morningside College. He had a long and successful career in the retail shoe industry and earned his professional Pedorthist Certification from Ball State University. He was a consummate entrepreneur, owning several businesses, including Krall's Shoes in Cedar Rapids.
He was a proud Eagle Scout, Drum Major, Shriner, National Guard Mess Sergeant, Iowa Mineral Society President, Past Commodore of the McGregor Upper Mississippi Yacht and Boat Club, and Trustee of Sny Magill University, McGregor, Iowa, where he was a Professor in the Culinary Arts Department. He was also a long-time member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church and later of The First Congregational Church in McGregor, Iowa.
Dwayne consistently upheld the highest of values, demonstrated by simple everyday acts of kindness and generosity with those he encountered.
In addition to his wife of 25 years, Joan Liffring-Zug Bourret, he is survived by his children, Josie Heskje, Melinda (Mike) Bradnan, Lynette (Steve) Etzel, Jeff (Jeni) White, Denise Bourret and DeChantal (Bradley) Engel; grandchildren, Ryan Etzel, Jonah, Lydia and Levi Heskje, and Tiffany and Brandon Bourret; and siblings, Shirley (Ron) Zellers and Donald (Donna) Bourret. He is also survived by former son-in-law, Eric Heskje and stepgrandchild, Holly Heusinkveld.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Macyll and Charles Milton Bourret; brother, Daryll Bourret; granddaughter, Amy Marshall; and two previous wives, Jacquelyn Johnson-Hardy and JoAnn Brookings Bourret.
