Donald Bernard Sutter, 84, of Elgin, Iowa, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, Iowa. Donald Bernard was born Dec. 7, 1935, to Daniel and Hulda (Friederich) Sutter in rural Elgin, Iowa. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1953. Donald proudly joined and served in the U.S. Air Force from July 20, 1953, to June 25, 1957.
Donald was united in marriage with Marilana Ogle on Aug. 3, 1958, at Illyria Community Church, rural Elgin. Two children were born to this union. Don worked for Fauser Oil Co. from 1957-1978 when he purchased the gas station. He owned and operated Don's 66 in Elgin, Iowa from 1978-1999. For the last 20 years, Don was a loyal employee of Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Marilana Sutter of Elgin, Iowa; his children, Kristopher (Laura) Sutter of Manchester, Iowa, and Kelly (Robert) Fink of Wadena, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Erna Koupal of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and many other family friends.
Preceding Don in death were his parents, Daniel and Hulda Sutter; and his siblings, Leo Sutter, Marie Anderson, Fritz Sutter and a brother, Selmar Sutter in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at Illyria Community Church in Elgin.
Funeral service will at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Illyria Community Church in Elgin, with Pastor Pam Reinig and The Rev. Harold McMillin as the officiants.
Burial with military rites will be at Illyria Cemetery in rural Elgin.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin, is helping the family with arrangements.
