Edith Arline Horner, 90, of Mechanicsville, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at the Mechanicsville Specialty Care Center after a short illness. Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville, by Pastor Jim Goodrich. The family respectfully requests masks be worn at the cemetery. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, is caring for Arline and her family.

Survivors include her children, David (Kathy) of Waukee and Terry of Mechanicsville; two grandchildren, Ryan of Waukee and Katelyn of Chicago; sister-in-law, Jacqueline (Gene) Covey of Hot Springs, Ark.; and nieces, Michael Kay (Glen) Robertson of Hot Springs, Ark., and Dawn Moffit of Denver, Colo.

Arline was born July 14, 1931, to Charles and Thelma Wall in St. Louis, Mo. Arline met Robert Horner while he was a renter at her father's boarding house while he attended mortuary school. They were married Sept. 2, 1950. They moved to Robert's hometown of Mechanicsville. Arline was very active in Mechanicsville, a town she loved. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, president of the Lincoln Community Band Boosters, and an active member of the Presbyterian Church. Together, Arline and Bob owned and operated their family business: Horner Funeral Home. They also ran the furniture store, which eventually shifted to become an antiques store.

Arline was a religious and faithful woman, a savvy business partner, and wonderful mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Arline was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda, in 2005; and husband of 64 years, Bob, in 2014.

Memorials in Arline's honor may be made to the Mechanicsville First Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsville Fire and Ambulance Volunteers or the Mechanicsville Specialty Care Center.
