Herbert "Herb" N. Miller, 92, of Marengo, passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at Compass Memorial Hospital, Marengo. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo, with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Military honors will be conducted. There will be a luncheon served at the Marengo American Legion Hall following the graveside service. Memorials may be contributed to Essence of Life Hospice and the Marengo American Legion. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Herb was born Sept. 12, 1929, to Leslie and Edna (Wyant) Miller. He graduated from Conroy High School in 1946 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Herb joined the U.S. Navy on Jan. 3, 1951, later being discharged in November 1954. He then returned to farming in Iowa County. Herb also was a sub-rural mail carrier from 1971, becoming a fulltime rural mail carrier in April 1983. He retired in January 1995.
Herb married Marilyn Cronbaugh on Feb. 17, 1952, in Marengo. He is survived by his four children, David (Jacquie) Miller of Marengo, Susan (Mark) Fischer of Ankeny, Jim (Luanne) Miller of Ely and Leane (Alan) Gustafson of Lakefield, Minn..; seven grandchildren, Deanne (Dan) Mattox, Dana (Mike) Cook, Daniel Miller, Erika and Bradley Gustafson, and Justin and Jacob Fischer; four great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Iain Mattox, and Michael James and Quinn Cook; a brother, George Miller; and a sister, Mae Miller.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn; his parents; brothers, Ralph, Harold, Lester and Marvin; and sisters, Alice, Mary, Evelyn Miller and Katherine Zerrien.
