DOREEN "DEE" M. THIBAULT
Cedar Rapids
Doreen "Dee" M. Thibault, 68, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed peacefully at St. Luke's Hospice on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at a later date at Baker Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Doreen Marie was born on March 5, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, to Leo Thomas and Gladys Marie (Ralston) Phillipson. She lived in the Cedar Rapids area all her life and graduated from Prairie High School in 1971. After graduating she studied cosmetology, worked as a medical transcriptionist and was a bartender. She had three sons: Dustin, Damien and Dylan, in her first marriage.
In 1987, Dee met her true love, Michael "Mike," and within weeks they were inseparable and married on April 28, 1990. She enjoyed her career of 28 years, as a branch office administrator for Edward Jones, retiring in 2015.
Dee enjoyed traveling, "glamping," puzzles, spending time with family and friends; and always lit up when seeing young children. In recent years as she struggled with treatments for lung cancer, she and Mike spent many hours enjoying each other's company.
Dee is survived by her husband, Mike; three sons, Dustin (Jenni) Bruce of Council Bluffs, Damien (Heather) Bruce of Vinton and Dylan Bruce of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Quintin, Kaleb, Caden, Teagan, Taylor and Alex; one great-granddaughter, Wren; her sister, Karen (Thomas) Tjelmeland of Ely; and special friend, Berni Blazek of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Lana Henry.
The family thanks the many staff members who treated Dee at Mercy and St. Luke's Hospitals; especially the staff at the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
