Kenneth "Ken" Wayne Hayward, 70, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, following a short illness. Ken's celebration of life is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 3000 Alburnett Road, Marion, Iowa
He is survived by husband, Steve Hay; his siblings, William Harvey (Rosalee) Hayward of Lafayette, Ind., and Gerald (Janice) Hayward of Charleston, S.C.; special friend, Christopher Hill; many nieces and nephews; and faithful companion, Ouisa.
Ken was born Aug.10, 1951, the son of William and Wanda (Engle) Hayward. He was born in South Bend, Ind., where he grew up and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1969. He lived for a time in Atlanta and Indianapolis before moving to Tucson, Ariz., where he met his future husband, Steve, in 1992. They moved to Iowa in 1996, and married on Feb. 18, 2010. After working in various jobs over the years, Ken found his calling as a nurse. He graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 1999 and became an LPN. He worked at Northbrook Manor for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Wanda Hayward; and brothers, Larry and Curtis.
