Leone J. Popenhagen, 97,
of Boone and Ogden, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at the Westhaven Community Care Center. Private Celebration
of Life services were held at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids. Burial was in Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Leone was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Western, the
daughter of Joseph and Mary (Modracek) Andrlik. She was united in marriage to George Popenhagen on June 23, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked for many years as an interior decorator and furniture salesperson at Peterson's Furniture, Pidgeon's Furniture and Smulekoff's, where she retired from in 1986. She enjoyed going for rides, decorating, meticulously tending to her yard and home. For the past 15 years, she lived with her daughter Cindy, moving to Ogden in 2008, and inherited a son-in-law, Karl Hunter and his family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cindy (Karl) Hunter of Boone; two grandchildren, Jody (Matt) Miller of Boone and Kevin (Mallory) Hunter of Ogden; great-granddaughter, Ella Hunter; her sister, Rose Mary Rosdail of Marengo; two nieces, Dawn Newman of Marengo and Debbie Knapp of Belle Plaine; a special "daughter," Carol Popenhagen of Ankeny; as well as other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; her sister, Wilma Sedivy; her dog, Bart; and many good friends.
