Missed FOX Big Noon Kickoff in Iowa City? Here were some of the best signs
College GameDay? Iowa fans aren’t big fans

IOWA CITY — Iowa seems to have a new favorite college football morning show.
While ESPN College GameDay was in Texas for the Oklahoma-Texas game, FOX Big Noon Kickoff set up in Iowa City ahead of Saturday’s game between the No. 3 Hawkeyes and No. 4 Penn State.
From a “Let’s Go Hawks” chant led by Iowa alum Bob Stoops to the myriad signs in the crowd, many Iowa fans — and some Penn State fans too — embraced having the other national show at the Pentacrest.
Here were some of the best signs from Saturday:
We want Bama
Well, a win against Penn State could help make that happen.
Penn State eats cereal w/ a fork
Do people actually eat cereal with a fork? That’s news to me. It seems so impractical.
ESPN sucks
I don’t think the channel gained many fans in Iowa City this week after spurning the biggest Iowa home game since 1985 for the annual Oklahoma-Texas rivalry.
Nebraska still sucks
Death, taxes and shots taken at Nebraska.
Nittany Lion looks like a $37 Hobby Lobby project
I’ve admittedly never been inside a Hobby Lobby. I have seen the Nittany Lion mascot, though. A Quality Logo Products survey last month ranked it as the sixth-worst mascot in college athletics. That tells you a lot about the other five.
Can’t spell Big Ten without Big E!
I did not know much about Big E until Mike Hlas’ column about him. It sounds like he’s a big deal in the WWE world.
Put Iowa D/ST on your fantasy team this week
As someone who lost in fantasy football last week after starting the Raiders’ defense/special teams, I wouldn’t mind if the ESPN app let me do this.
Corn
I like the simplicity. It was of course in black and gold, too.
Does PSU even have corn?
Well, Pennsylvania does have about 1.5 million acres of cornfields, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It’s a big state, though.
Tyler Goodson > Reggie Bush
Reggie Bush had 8.7 yards per carry in 2005. Tyler Goodson had 4.3 yards per carry in 2021 before the Penn State game. Maybe that fan thinks this is like golf.
PSU football is a lot like their wrestling. Second to Iowa!
Would it truly be an Iowa-Penn State morning show without some mention of wrestling?
What even is a Nittany Lion?
There were a few variations of this one. Apparently enough other people were wondering too for Penn State to have a page on its website answering this. It is a mountain lion or cougar. State College, Penn., the home of Penn State, had mountain lions in the area until about 1880.
Tory Taylor 4 Heisman
Hayden Fry was 21 the last time a punter won the Heisman. Kirk Ferentz wasn’t born yet. Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral probably don’t have to worry too much about this candidate.
Sean Clifford drinks White Claws
Hey, what’s wrong with White Claws? I like them once in a while. Same goes to the person holding the “Sean Clifford eats candy corn” sign. It is October after all.
