Conference volleyball primer: MVC, Wamac, River Valley, Tri-Rivers tournament formats, schedule

Conference volleyball tournament assignments have been released for the area’s core four conferences.

A look:

Mississippi Valley

FORMAT

Tuesday: Four pools of four teams each -- Championship, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Round-robin in each pool; no bracket play.

Championship Pool (at Cedar Rapids Xavier): Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Iowa City Liberty

Gold Pool (at Iowa City West): Dubuque Hempstead, Iowa City High, Iowa City West, Western Dubuque

Silver Pool (at Dubuque Senior): Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Dubuque Senior, Linn-Mar

Bronze Pool (at Waterloo West): Cedar Rapids Washington, Dubuque Wahlert, Waterloo East, Waterloo West

Wamac

FORMAT

Monday: Four pools -- three with three teams, one with four. Two pools at Center Point, two at Mount Vernon.

Pool 1 (at Mount Vernon): Maquoketa, Vinton-Shellsburg, West Delaware

Pool 2 (at Mount Vernon): Clear Creek Amana, Mount Vernon, South Tama

Pool 3 (at Center Point): Center Point-Urbana, Dyersville Beckman, Independence, Solon

Pool 4 (at Center Point): Benton Community, Marion, Williamsburg

Thursday: Top two teams in each of Monday’s pools advance to an eight-team championship bracket, at Marion. The other five teams move into a consolation bracket, also at Marion.

River Valley

FORMAT

Tuesday: Four pools -- two with three teams, two with four, all at home sites.

Pool A (at West Liberty): Durant, North Cedar, Northeast, West Liberty

Pool B (at Cascade): Camanche, Cascade, Tipton, West Branch

Pool C (at Wilton): Anamosa, Bellevue, Wilton

Pool D (at Monticello): Iowa City Regina, Mid-Prairie, Monticello

Thursday: Championship bracket play at Wilton. Top two teams from each pool advance.

Tri-Rivers

FORMAT

Thursday: Four pools -- one with three teams, three with four, all at home sites. Pools are intradivision.

Easton Valley pool: Bellevue Marquette, Clinton Prince of Peace, Easton Valley, Midland

Lisbon pool: Calamus-Wheatland, Cedar Valley Christian, Lisbon

Springville pool: Alburnett, Central City, Edgewood-Colesburg, Springville

Starmont pool: East Buchanan, Maquoketa Valley, North Linn, Starmont

Next Saturday: Top two teams from each pool advance to championship-bracket play at Wheatland. There is no consolation bracket.
