Gail Elaine McGrew Kilstofte, 88, of Toledo, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Rector Cemetery in rural Chelsea. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Gail was born on Dec. 27, 1932, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of William E. and Irena Mae (Dodd) Scott.
She graduated from Toledo High School in 1950.
On Oct. 28, 1950, she married Wesley McGrew and together they had three children. He passed away in 1996. On April 29, 1999, she married Don Kilstofte. He passed away in 2005.
Gail delivered newspapers as a young girl. Later, her careers included a telephone operator working the switchboard in Toledo, City Clerk for Chelsea and owned and operated McGrew Oil Co. in Chelsea and Tama.
Gail was a member of the Haven Church and attended Grace Community Church in Toledo. She helped start the Chelsea Library and was on the board for many years. Gail was one of the organizers in the Chelsea Centennial Celebration. She was a volunteer at the Tama County Historical Society and the Red Cross attending several disasters for aid. Over the years, Gail loved traveling with Don.
Survivors include her children, Barry (Corinne) McGrew of Chelsea, Brenda Bridges (Roberto Gonzalez) of Toledo and Jacala McGrew of Elkhart; six grandchildren, Brandon, Christopher, Bryce and Blair Bridges, and Jared (Kristee) McGrew and Reece McGrew; three great-grandchildren, Shaelynn Bridges, Kaycee and Mylee Gail McGrew; sister-in-law, Phyllis Scott of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, Wesley and Don; two brothers; and five sisters.
