IOWA CITY — Iowa City Pride has waited months to host its 50th anniversary in person — and that time is finally here.
The longest-running LGBTQ Pride celebration had to postpone its milestone anniversary last year and shift its events online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Saturday’s celebrations kick off at noon with a Unity March instead of the event’s usual parade. People can begin gathering as early as 10 a.m., and there will be poster boards and markers for anyone wanting to make signs.
The march will begin at College Green Park at the corner of College and Johnson streets and wrap up at the corner of Linn and Washington.
Individuals are “highly encouraged” to wear face masks at the march, as well as other events throughout the festival, organizers said on Facebook.
The downtown vendor fair began on Friday but will be back on Saturday from noon to 9 p.m.
Iowa City Pride also is hosting a drag brunch at Vue Rooftop from noon to 2 p.m.
Local and headlining entertainment will kick off at 1 p.m. at the main stage near Studio 13.
- The Quire of Eastern Iowa at 1 p.m.
- End of the Rainbow — Revival Theatre Company at 1:15 p.m.
- United Action for Youth Draglings at 1:30 p.m.
- Two Bit Maniac at 2:15 p.m.
- Pride Royalty at 3 p.m.
- Death Kill Overdrive at 4:15 p.m.
- I.C. Kings at 5 p.m.
- Bawdy Bawdy Ha Ha at 6 p.m.
- Finesse at 6:45 p.m.
- Studio 13 Queens at 7:30 p.m.
- Robin S and Ce Ce Peniston at 8:30 p.m.
