Iowa vs. Maryland Fun Facts: Larry David edition

It’s a short week, so there’ no prologue. On with the Friday Night Fun Facts for Iowa-Maryland:
1. Iowa is 8-3 all-time in Friday games.
2. The Big Ten East is 5-1 against the West. The East’s only loss was Indiana’s at Iowa.
3. Maryland hasn’t been ranked for more than one week in a season since 2008 and hasn’t been ranked higher than 21st since 2003. The Terrapins haven’t defeated a top-10 team since they beat No. 10 Rutgers in 2007 and haven’t started a season 5-0 since 2001.
4. The two teams played Kent State on consecutive weeks. Iowa won by 23 points two weeks ago, Maryland won by 21 last Saturday.
5. The Hawkeyes have allowed a total of only 3 third-quarter points over four games.
6. Maryland has been in the red zone 26 times, Iowa 11. The Hawkeyes’ foes have been in the red zone a mere eight times.
7. Iowa is one of four teams (Kansas State, South Alabama, UTSA) that has not allowed a rushing play of 20-plus yards.
8. Maryland leads the Big Ten in quarterback sacks with 4.0 per game, and is second nationally in sack yards with 129.
9. The Hawkeyes are last in the Big Ten in total offense (293.0 ypg) and yards per play (4.6).
10. Maryland’s Dontay Demus has seven career 100-yard receiving games and is first in the Big Ten in receiving yards per game.
11. Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta has more receiving yards than any other two Hawkeyes combined.
12. Terrapins quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa played in five games as a freshman at Alabama, where current Maryland head coach Mike Locksley was the offensive coordinator and where Tua Tagovailoa starred at quarterback. Taulia and Tua both play ukulele.
13. Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell’s 18 tackles against Colorado State are the second-most by an FBS player this season, trailing only Baylon Spector’s 19 for Clemson against North Carolina State.
14. Maryland scored 38 points in its last home game against Iowa. It scored 0 points in its last road game against Iowa.
15. The Terps will wear a special green ribbon on their helmets Friday to signify mental health awareness.
16. Iowa has scored 44 points off turnovers, second nationally. Oregon has 48.
17. Maryland has players from Venice (Fla.), Havana (Fla.) and Berlin (Md.).
18. College Park is home to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Center for Weather and Climate Prediction, and the Food and Drug Administration Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
19. Maryland was named after Queen Henrietta Maria, who never stepped foot in the state.
20. Larry David earned a bachelor’s degree in history at Maryland in 1970. "I liked their nickname, the Terrapins," he told NBC News in 2011. “It was near Washington, D.C., it was only four hours from Brooklyn. I wanted to go to a big-campus school — they had a football team — and have a college experience."
