CEDAR RAPIDS — Because of the rising cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in Linn County, the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library board have announced their annual Fall Book Sale has been postponed. Originally scheduled for this weekend, the new dates are May 13-15, 2022, at The Cherry Building in Cedar Rapids’ New Bo District.
“First and foremost, we wanted our patrons and our volunteers to know they could safely shop at our big sale. After reviewing relevant case data in Linn County, we knew the numbers were not on our side,” Friends’ board president Libby Slappey said in a statement. “Our sale typically draws hundreds of people into a tight space that’s already crowded with thousands of books and we simply couldn’t take the risk.”
Friends of the Library has several smaller, safer sales scheduled for the remainder of the year, including their Farmers Market sales on the front plaza of the downtown library on Saturday.
