Congratulations to Iowa City for running its second annual Climate Fest. This week from Sept. 20-25 there are various activities listed by iowa-city.gov.
Awards were given tor ACT for its environmental work on preserving wildlife habitats, to Haunted Bookshop for its work on maximizing recycling and limiting waste and to New Pioneer Food Coop for partnering with Table to Table to rescue 80,000 pounds of food, for eliminating plastic bags and for sourcing products from local farmers who raise animals and produce in a sustainable way.
With the U.N. meeting underway in New York- dealing with many issues including climate effects, global COVID assistance and the upcoming Climate Conference in Glasgow Nov. 1-12, it is past time for us all to be thinking about how we can contribute to halting the effects of carbon and methane gases on our increasingly heated world. Every little bit helps- recycling, not using plastic, eating a more sustainable diet and voting for candidates who care about the environment we are leaving for our children and grandchildren. Our clock is ticking!
