Larry Lee Hanson, 73, of Marion, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Marion, where family will greet friends and family one hour prior to service. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. Burial with military honors will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery located at 2295 Ross Rd., Palo, Iowa, at 2 p.m. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Larry was born Aug. 7, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Josephine (Minninger) Hanson. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids and went on to attend the University of Northern Colorado. Larry was united in marriage to Nancy Kay Vane. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. Larry taught for the Springfield Colorado School District and worked in sales for Remedy Intelligence Staffing in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 2014. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the Marion American Legion Post No. 298. Larry loved sports, coaching basketball and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. He especially loved attending his grandchildren's activities. Larry had a great sense of humor; he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Nancy of Marion; son, Ryan Hanson of Pontiac, Ill.; daughter, Robyn (Kyle) Ledger of Marion; five grandchildren, Bailey and Tyler Hanson, Elsie, Alaina and Nora Ledger; one sister, Carol Livingston of Missouri; and one sister-in-law, Cindy Hanson of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Josephine Hanson; and one brother, Marvin Hanson.
Memorials in Larry's memory may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or to the Marion American Legion Post No. 298.
The family would like to thank all of the care givers who helped care for Larry over the last year and a half.
