‘Ending the border crisis is simple and straightforward’

Gov. Kim Reynolds has joined 25 other Republican governors in signing a letter requesting an audience with President Joe Biden to discuss the crisis on our southern border. She cites the increase in various criminal activities and specifically refers to the uptick in drug traffic. She states that the Iowa law enforcement has seized about 134 pounds of fentanyl and 294 pounds of methamphetamine between January and June of this year. I have to assume this is an uptick in drug traffic but it precedes the current border crisis. What exactly would she have the president do that is “simple and straightforward,” other than deporting the migrants who do not meet the legal standards for refugee status? He has augmented the law enforcement personnel, which he can further enhance if required, but there is nothing simple or straightforward within the existing immigration system that he can do.
Why is it that there are 26 Republican governors raising the issue of the border crisis? Am I to assume that the Democratic governors don't care about the safety of their states' citizens? Let me suggest that in addition to the audience with the president you also meet with the minority leaders in the House and Senate to push for legislative action to address the immigration issues.
