Leona A. Jones, 87, Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday evening, Sept. 17, 2021 at Silver Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marion. Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, Cedar Rapids. where visitation will begin at noon. Private family burial: Morrison Cemetery, rural Cedar Rapids.
Leona is survived by three children, Carl (Glenda) Jones, Marion, Leona "Loni" (Thomas) Lutz, Ocala, Fla., and Linda (Richard) Steggall, Ely; sisters, Delores Grulkey, Hiawatha, and Carol (Don) Eiben, Anamosa; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Jones; her parents, Carl and Dorothy (Soukup) Michels; and siblings, Judy, Alice and Richard.
Leona was born Aug. 9, 1934, in Iowa City and lived most of her life in the Cedar Rapids area. She was employed at Square D Company for many years until retiring in 1992.
She was a member of Weight Watchers and the Widows and Widowers Club. Leona enjoyed shopping for clothes and jewelry and also going out to eat with friends and family.
A memorial fund has been established.
