Maxine M. Evers, 92, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, formerly of Coggon, passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends and family from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, Iowa. A graveside service with burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Spring Grove Cemetery in Coggon, Iowa. The family requests no flowers.
Maxine was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Frederika, Iowa, the daughter of Harry H. and Doris Merie (Guhlow) Parson. She graduated from Troy Mills High School. Maxine was united in marriage to Bernard F. Evers on June 8, 1946, at Troy Mills Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 2016.
Maxine was a homemaker. She farmed with her husband for 20 years and also worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 25 years. She loved to travel far and near, and enjoyed a good crossword puzzle, playing cards and gardening.
Maxine is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Gary (Darlene) Evers of Sulphur, La., Gail (Randy) Blackburn of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Harry (Karen) Evers of Coggon; a son-in-law, Fred Hardy of Louisiana; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Lori Hardy; two sisters, Gina Cord and Gloria Erickson; and one brother, Harry Parson.
Maxine's family would like to express a special thanks to Cherry Ridge of Mount Vernon for their loving care of Maxine over the past several years.
