Leona M. Wauters, 70, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sept. 9, 2021, of natural causes. A vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m., with a visitation held from 4 to 7 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion, with an additional visitation one hour prior. The family respectfully requests that all guests wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
Leona was born on Feb. 1, 1951, in West Union, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Dorothy Schmitz. She graduated from West Union High School in 1969, moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and began working for Collins Radio. She retired in 2015 as a senior buyer. On Aug. 7, 1976, she was united in marriage to Dallan Wauters. From this union Jennifer (Patrick) Stephens was born Oct. 19, 1982. Leona enjoyed traveling, making blankets for Mercy Medical Center, and spending time with her grandchildren and other family and friends. Leona will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Leona's memory are her husband, Dale; her daughter, Jennifer (Patrick) Stephens of Omaha, Neb.; her grandchildren, Maximus and Aria Stephens; her siblings, Marie (Don) Gurnett, Janice Roberts, Ron (Louise) Schmitz, Leroy Mullinnix, Linda Paine, Norma (Larry) Stanfield, Vernon (Lucinda) Schmitz, Lois Akey, Marilyn (Randy) Stepan, Victor (Karen) Schmitz, Cindy (Forrest) Leveille, Charlie (Marsha) Wauters and Kim Wauters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Dorothy Schmitz; her sister, Delores Mullinnix; five brothers-in-law, Bill Roberts, Jim Paine, Mike Akey, Wayne Wauters and Ken Wauters; nephews, Brian Schmitz and Kyle Stanfield; and father- and mother-in-law, Raymond and Margaret Wauters.
