Every top-six team in Class 5A played a fellow ranked team Friday night — except top-ranked Southeast Polk, but the Rams got a test from a Waukee Northwest team that had already battled two top-10 teams to one-possession defeats.
Two Class 5A teams in Eastern Iowa were upset — No. 3 Cedar Rapids Prairie falling in the final seconds to No. 9 Cedar Falls, and No. 7 Pleasant Valley losing to Linn-Mar as the Lions moved to 3-0.
The highly-anticipated matchup between top-five teams at Kingston Stadium was all Cedar Rapids Kennedy as the 5A No. 4 Cougars beat 4A No. 3 Cedar Rapids Washington 48-7.
