LISBON — It was all you could ask for and more.
Ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, the Springville volleyball team played in a hostile environment Thursday night and won a nail-biter, 20-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-16 and 17-15, in sixth-ranked Lisbon’s “Lion’s Den.”
The Orioles’ No. 2 ranking is the highest in school history.
Senior outside hitter Lauren Wilson led the Orioles with a total of 14 kills.
Springville Coach Claude Howard was impressed with how his team handled itself Thursday night and kept its composure throughout the game.
“Our focus overall is one step at a time, along with mental toughness,” he said. “In the past, these kids have been down, hung their heads and lost the fight. Especially, at the state tournament.
“But we knew it was going to be a tough environment to play in and I am super proud of all our kids and how strong their mental toughness was tonight.”
Springville's Lauren Wilson, playing in a 2020 match at Benton Community, led the second-ranked Orioles to a 3-2 win over No. 6 Lisbon on Thursday. (The Gazette)
