Cedar Rapids
Carol Brown, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, at St. Luke's Transitional Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Visitation will begin prior to the service at
9 a.m. A livestream of the service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Carol Brown, under the video tab starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11.
Carol was born on Aug. 1, 1938, to Mabel and Dale Moorhead in Omaha, Neb. She graduated from Omaha Benson High School and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. On June 19, 1960, she married David Wayne Brown in Omaha. Carol and Dave were happily married over 56 years, raising their children on Lake Macbride in Solon. Following retirement, they split their time between Marco Island, Fla., and Lake Vermilion in northern Minnesota. It didn't matter where they were, as long as they were together.
Carol was very active throughout her life, was named "Queen of Sports" at Benson High, and played tennis and golf into her 80s. She enjoyed snow skiing, fishing, bareboat sailing, waterskiing and was even seen on her Sea Doo last summer. She loved traveling. She and Dave had their own airplane in retirement, and she happily became the co-pilot as they traveled the country. Carol would never admit it, but she was a very good artist. She could sketch about anything, but perhaps her favorite subjects were her husband, kids and dogs. Carol loved animals, especially dogs. She and Dave rescued a dog, Jackson, who became her constant companion over the past 5 years.
Carol is survived by her children, Dave (Cindy) Brown of Solon, Kristin (Rob) White of Solon and Ken (Alison) Brown of Cedar Rapids. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Bob (Audrey) Brown, Allison (Travis) Merritt, Nick Brown, Christopher Brown, Alex White, Zack Brown and Brady Brown. Carol was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Mia Merritt and Blakely Brown. She is also survived by her brother, Ken (Gerry) Moorhead of Boulder, Colo., and her brother-in-law, Dennis (Bev) Brown of Carter Lake, Iowa. And of course, Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Dave; and her parents, Mabel and Dale Moorhead.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
