After a long struggle with mental illness, Darin Lee Goodell, 54, of Urbana, took his own life Monday, Aug. 30, 2021.
Darin was born March 23, 1967, in Vinton to Leon and Karen (Schlotterbeck) Goodell. He grew up in Urbana and graduated from Urbana Consolidated High School in 1985. Darin worked for Rockwell Collins for 34 years.
Darin was beloved by his family, many classmates and co-workers. He loved his Monte Carlo and his "Texas" Chevy truck. He was an avid sports fan and had an extensive sport card collection. He also enjoyed going to music concerts. Darin especially appreciated his mother's home cooking.
Darin is survived by his daughter, Allie Goodell of Cedar Rapids; his father, Leon Goodell of Boyd, Texas; his mother, Karen Goodell of Urbana; his sister, Lisa (Roger) Fraley of Vinton; three brothers, Mitchell (Candie) Goodell of Urbana, Monte (Marla) Goodell of Vinton and his twin brother, Douglas Goodell of Urbana; nieces, Brittany and Chelsea Goodell and Danielle (Travis) Wiegand; and nephews, Nathan (Emily) Goodell and Brian (Christian) Goodell.
Darin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Forrest and Helen Goodell and Harold and Irene Schlotterbeck.
A private family burial will be held Monday, Sept. 20, 2021. A public Celebration of Life will be held at the Don Bosco Hall in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 402 Ash Ave., Urbana, on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, from 2 to 5 p.m.
