WILLIAM "BILL" OR "JOCKO" JOHN JACOBI
Augusta, Kan.
William "Bill" or "Jocko" John Jacobi, 54, of Augusta, Kan., died on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, due to complications from an illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 8100 Roncalli Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with Father Richmond Dzekoe as celebrant. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church Tuesday, Aug. 31.
Bill was born May 14, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, to Jim and Mary Lou Jacobi of Atkins, Iowa. He graduated from Benton Community High School in 1985. He graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. He taught for a short period in Kansas City public schools before starting a career in information technology.
Bill's enthusiasm for life, having fun and his hearty laugh was contagious. He enjoyed time with family and friends, by playing cards, attending Iowa State and Kansas City sporting events, and many travels, including the annual fishing trip with his Theta Chi brothers. He opened his home to many relatives and friends in the Kansas City area, when they were getting their start or transitioning to their next chapter.
Bill was a man of integrity, treating all people with patience and kindness, and always with a sense of humor. He was a dedicated and hard-working Information Technology leader for many years, earning a trip to Hawaii where he proudly invited his mother to join him.
He found the love of his life, Micayla, two years ago who gave him a true sense of fulfillment, joy and happiness. Together they enjoyed adventures and their abundant mutual respect and overflowing love radiated for all to see.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Valisa Jo Schneider (Matt) of Connecticut; fiancee, Micayla Freking of Kansas; mother, Mary Lou Jacobi; and siblings, Connie (Marty) Ternus, Mark (Amy) Jacobi, Mike (Traci) Jacobi, Linda (Kerry) Clark, Jason (Nicole) Jacobi and Jennifer (Jon) Wilson. Bill was beloved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and by his new family, Joshua (Lori) Freking, Adam (Keely) Freking, Alex (Haley) Freking and six grandchildren. He had many close friends and relatives in the Kansas City area as well as his Theta Chi fraternity brothers across the country.
Bill was preceded in death by his father; Jim Jacobi; grandparents, Franklyn and Lovell Jacobi and Gerald and Lillian McNulty; and several aunts, uncles and relatives.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, in Overland Park, Kan., at a location to be announced. Bill's final resting place will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park.
