NORBERT KROB
Bradenton, Fla.
Norbert Krob, 102, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Walker, Iowa, died in Bradenton, on Aug. 13, 2021. A funeral Mass was held at Ss. Peter and Paul the Apostles Church in Bradenton. A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Walker 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Norbert Frank Krob and his twin brother, Robert William were born at home in Ely, Iowa, on Feb. 19, 1919, sons of Frank Joseph (F.J.) and Libby Zvacek Krob. Along with another brother and two sisters, they grew up in Ely, worked for their dad at F.J. Krob and Company elevator, and graduated from Ely School in 1936.
Norb was drafted into the U.S. Army March 27, 1941, and discharged Dec. 11, 1945, 4 years, 8 month, 14 days. While stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky., he met a southern beauty named Mary Ruth Van Ness. They were married in Fancy Farm, Ky., on April 24, 1944, a marriage that would last more than 70 years.
After the war, Norb and Mary Ruth returned to Iowa and Norb continued his grain business career. In 1950, F.J. bought an elevator in Walker. Norb was assigned to begin operations for the company at that location. Norb and Mary Ruth raised their family and lived in Walker until 1978, when they retired to Bradenton.
Norb loved life and he loved people. His passions were family, his love of his Catholic faith, golf and traveling. He and Mary Ruth visited 49 states, Canada and Mexico in their RV, playing golf and making many new friends. Norb and Mary Ruth were founding members of Ss. Peter & Paul, the Apostles Catholic Church in Bradenton. His faith was very important to him and he continued to attend daily mass until his death.
He is survived by his sons, Mike (Penny) Krob of Walker, David (Cheryl) Krob of Ely and Tom (Jane) Krob of Las Vegas; his grandchildren, Michelle (Lee) Cherry, Allen (Sheri) Krob, Steven (Kim) Krob, Gary Krob, Jeffrey (April) Krob, Julie (Robert) King, Mark (Erin) Krob, Kara (Travis) Clark, Brian (Emily) Krob and Melanie Krob Muldowney; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth, in 2014; and his grandson, Michael, in 1999. Also preceding were his parents, brothers J. Victor (Edna) Krob and Robert (Verona) Krob; and sisters, Martha (John) Phillips and Doris (Lester) Buresh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church, Walker or Camp Courageous of Iowa.
