Cascade
Dorothy F. Birky, 93, of Cascade, passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021. at Shady Rest Home in Cascade. Private graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at Community of Christ Church
in Hiawatha.
Survivors include a son, Harvey (Josephine) Birky of Red Oak, Iowa; daughters, Diane (George) Barber of Cascade and Sandy (Ed) Gau of Dubuque; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harold.
Dorothy was born July 1, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, to Ted and Laurine Clark. She married Harold Birky on June 10, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. Dorothy was an administrative assistant was 22 years for John S. Vavra Company. She was a lifetime member of the Community of Christ Church, a former president of Eastern Iowa Quilter's Guild and a longtime volunteer of the Red Cross. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Hospice of Dubuque or Community of Christ Church.
