Ronald Dean Paul, 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 30, at
1:30 p.m. at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Home, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. The Rev. Rebecca Carver will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at
the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Ronald D. Paul Memorial Fund c/o Green State Credit Union or to Boys Town www.boystown.org.
Ron was born on Sept. 14, 1938, in Clarion, the son of William and Florence (Tuttle) Paul. On Feb. 14, 1960, Ron married Joyce Goodrich in Kanawha.
Ron served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1962, and the Army Reserve.
Ron was a chef at the Coralville Hy-Vee for many years. Prior to that he was a chef at The Highlander Inn and the Iowa City Sheraton and Holiday Inn.
Ron was a member of First United Methodist Church, Coralville American Legion, the Coralville Optimists and the Eagles. He was an official for baseball, softball and basketball games with Iowa Boys and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Associations.
He enjoyed time spent bowling, gambling at the casino, watching Hallmark movies and Iowa Women's Basketball. Most important to Ron was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, and their children, Rocky Byers (Steve) of Oxford, William Paul of Des Moines, Dee Harris (Mickey) of Tiffin and Sam Waller (Darrin) of Clarion; grandchildren, Angela, Amy, Derek, Mickey Jr., Tara, Morgan, Sydney, Taylor, Jenna and Tabetha; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Charlee, Lawson, Derek Jr., Piper, Penelope, Jordan and Jayden; seven great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Richard Paul (Anne) of Oswego, Ill.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty.
