Funeral services to celebrate the life of Marjorie K. Grimoskas, 95, of Tipton, formerly of Davenport, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. The service will be livestreamed by visiting Mrs. Grimoskas' obituary at www.hmdfuneralhome.com. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be held
from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa Blind Association.
Mrs. Grimoskas died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, at Prairie Hills Nursing Home, Tipton.
Marjorie Kasten was born on Sept. 14, 1925, in Spring Valley, Minn., a daughter of George C. and Mabel A. (McNee) Kasten. She earned her undergraduate degree from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa, and her Master's in School Counseling from the University of Iowa.
Marjorie was united in marriage to Joseph Alfred Grimoskas on Sept. 8, 1947, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Spring Valley, Minn. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2007.
Mrs. Grimoskas was a teacher and school counselor for many years. She taught at Immaculate Conception in Monmouth and Walcott Junior High School, where she retired in 1987. She was a lifetime member of National Education Association, Iowa School Educators Association and the Davenport Area Retired Teachers.
Marjorie was a voracious reader. Even when she was stricken with macular degeneration, she listened to books on tape sent to her by the Iowa Blind Association. She traveled the world with her husband Joe, especially cherishing their time in Europe and Hawaii.
Survivors include her sons, Dave Gimoskas, Glendale, Ariz., and Dick (Lori) Grimoskas, Tipton; grandchildren, Todd (Katie) Grimoskas, Phoenix, Megan (Mark) Contreras, Phoenix, Nicholas (Michelle) Grimoskas, West Des Moines, Eric (fiancée, Lauren Suminski) Grimoskas, Iowa City, and Kristin Grimoskas, West Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Todd Jr., Dora, Jessica, Alisha, Emerson and Nolan; and seven step-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Dorothy Burnap, Wesley Kasten and Lee Kasten. May they rest in peace.
