Coe’s offense has racked up a lot of yards in its first two games. Nebraska Wesleyan wasn’t able to slow down the Kohawks attack. Coe amassed 635 yards in a 62-14 victory Saturday at Clark Field.

Coe’s Brady Kelly passed for 291 yards and three touchdowns, helping the Kohawks to their 25th straight win over rival Cornell in the Bremner Cup Series.

Coe football has enjoyed experienced and talented defenses in recent years. The Kohawks graduated a majority of their defensive starters from last season and will attempt to maintain the high standard with some new starters.

Coe running back Trenton Barnes was workmanlike, carrying the ball 42 times for 185 yards in the Kohawks’ 27-10 victory over University of Dubuque Saturday at Clark Field.

Clay Krousie hadn’t started a football game at quarterback in almost five years. After a slow start, he was effective and successful, passing for 222 yards and two touchdowns in Coe’s 55-10 win over Cornell.

Coe demonstrated big-play ability, tallying eight total touchdowns and six of 48 yards or longer in a 56-6 rout of Cornell. The Kohawks have won 23 straight in the Bremner Cup series since 2000.

Dubuque benefited from a Coe holding penalty in the end zone, taking a 15-14 lead and the ball for a game-ending 3:25 drive. The Spartans handed Coe its first American Rivers Conference loss.

Coe’s football team has rotated quarterbacks so far this season. Junior Carter Maske got his first start Saturday against Simpson and made the most of it, throwing three touchdowns in a 48-10 victory.

Coe and Buena Vista are in a four-way tie for second with Wartburg and University of Dubuque. The winner will remain in the runner-up race behind Central College.

Five Coe running backs scored touchdowns and the defense forced five turnovers in a 63-7 victory to keep Luther winless.

Central quarterback Blaine Hawkins passed for 503 yards with six first-half touchdowns in a 55-21 victory over host Coe.

With one conference loss already, a win over Central is crucial for Coe’s conference title and postseason hopes.

Coe posted a 42-22 win over Simpson and now gets Wartburg and Central in back-to- back weeks.
