LARRY DEAN WRIGHT
Independence
Larry Dean Wright, of Independence, Iowa, passed to his eternal home on Aug. 15, 2021. Larry was born on Aug. 25, 1938, on a farm east of Rowley, Iowa, to Donna (Hoover) and Orva Wright. Visitation will be at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, Iowa, on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m. The service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m., at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory.
Larry was in the Army for three years. He spent his 18th birthday on a ship that was headed to South Korea. In Korea he received two tattoos. The left forearm said Dad, the right forearm said Mom. From there he was station at Ft. Sill, Okla. Although Anadarko, Okla., was off limits to the soldiers, that didn't stop Larry and his buddies from going there. It wasn't too long before he met his beautiful, future wife, Rachel Jordan. They married three months later. They had been married for 47 years, when Rachel went to her eternal home in 2004. The last three years together you could find them on their Harley trike, traveling all over.
Larry had a gift to strike up a conversation with anyone. This served him well as he had a career as a semi driver. As Larry was a believer in Christ, he enjoyed volunteering at different churches and the nursing home. He continued to ride his Harley trike, listening to Elvis Presley.
Larry is survived by his children, Larry (Donna), Dianna (Lyle) Zumbach, and Eddie (Lisa); his siblings, Kenny (Loretta) and Char (Tom) Peyton; his grandchildren, Joshua (Micayla) Farley, Heidi (Michael) Sands, Staci Wright (Roy Nicolas), Jordan Farley, Jagger Wright and Brooke, Sonia and Ericka Carmona; six great-grandchildren, Bella and Kinzley Farley, Bryson, Braxton and Benson Nicolas, and Kaydon Bell; five nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel; his parents; and his good friend, Mike Steine.
