DOROTHY M. "DOT" HARRELSON

Dorothy M. "Dot" Harrelson, 92, lifetime resident of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021, at Keystone Cedars in Cedar Rapids.
Dorothy Mae Hurka was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Louise (Yearsa) Hurka. Attending schools in Cedar Rapids, Dorothy graduated from McKinley High School. On June 17, 1949, she married Donald LeRoy Harrelson in Cedar Rapids. Don was in business in Cedar Rapids for many years, in which Dorothy supported him, and they raised their daughter, Wendy, together. Dorothy was an active member of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church, enjoyed her card clubs, bowling leagues and, after Don's death in 2000, she took over his responsibilities delivering Meals on Wheels enjoying the daily interactions with many. But most of all in her world was the joy her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought to her!
Her family includes her daughter, Wendy Rasmussen (Bill Ciha); grandchildren, Matthew Rasmussen and Caitlin Dyer (Travis); and two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Harrison Dyer.
Private family services will be held with burial at Cedar Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dot's memory to Care Initiatives Hospice (3720 Queen Ct.
