The college postseason continues with the NCAA Division II and III Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday. The D-III tournament includes the American Rivers Conference programs and Cornell, which is hosted by Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. Upper Iowa is the lone D-II program in the state and will compete at Indianapolis, Ind.
Coe posted a 2-0 dual record and entered the holiday break with a successful showing at the North Central Open. The Kohawks are in the midst of a training phase to prepare for the second half of the season, which begins with the NWCA Multi-Divisional Duals on Jan. 10-11 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
Coe senior Will Esmoil wanted to make the most out of what could be his final season. He succeeded at the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional wrestling tournament, posting three pins and two technical falls to earn a berth back to the national tournament after a year hiatus.
Coe 141-pounder Bryce Parke has endured the highs and lows of the college wrestling season. He thrived against rival Cornell, posting an 8-0 major decision over Carter Fecht in the Kohawks’ 33-6 dual win.
Coe has ascended to No. 1 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA Division III dual rankings. The Kohawks are the No. 1 seed at the NWCA Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships this week in Louisville, Ky.
Coe second-ranked heavyweight Kaleb Reeves has benefited from a busy offseason, competing in Greco-Roman tournaments and focusing on weight training. Both have paid dividends with a 12-0 start with 11 pins.
