LaVern was born on March 15, 1925, on the homeplace outside of Lisbon, Iowa. LaVern was the son of John Louis Cook and Ivory Achey Cook. LaVern attended the Prairie Bell Country School through the eighth grade (and yes, he had to walk up hill both ways!) and graduated from the Lisbon High School with the Class of 1943. On Dec. 9, 1945, LaVern was united in marriage to Geneva Maureen Cave in the United Methodist Church in Lisbon. LaVern was a farmer all of his life and was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Cedar County Cattleman's Association. LaVern loved the land, planting and harvesting the crops and tending to his beautiful Angus cattle.
LaVern is lovingly survived by his two sons, Ronald and Bonnie Cook and Russell and Dianne Cook, all of Mechanicsville, Iowa; and his granddaughter, Kellie and Jason Arduser of Monticello, Iowa, and their children, Kyle and Kayla.
LaVern was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geneva, in 2004; and his only sibling, Marguriete Pieper, in 2014.
Thank you to the caring staff of the Solon Nursing Home and the Iowa City Hospice.
