The Pledge of Allegiance is back in Iowan schools! Many Iowans are thrilled to see what was once a morning routine become revitalized in our classrooms. Iowa House File 847 requires students, unless a student or parent objects, to say the Pledge of Allegiance. What makes this bill so pivotal for our generation is the conclusion of several studies done with kids who grew up reciting the pledge. The University Press of Kansas stated students who recited the pledge during school had a better ability to comprehend American symbolisms. Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance could have the Pygmalion Effect within the next generations. If the conclusions of previous studies are accurate, then I believe we are bound for a better Iowa!
