Dennis D. Cobb, 69, of Solon, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, after a yearlong fight with Gliobastoma. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021, at Brosh Chapel.
Dennis was born Dec. 27, 1951, in Waterloo, the son of Melvin and Elizabeth "Ruth" (Andersen) Cobb. After graduating from Prairie High School in 1970, he went to work at various businesses and trades seeking his passion and knowledge. He eventually began working for Iowa Electric, now Alliant Energy, starting at the bottom and working his way through three different apprenticeships. He attained Journeyman status at each of them. Through his hard work and perseverance, he was promoted to Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. He worked with Alliant Energy for 24 years, 11 months, and 10 days. After leaving Alliant Energy, Dennis opened his own business. During this time he was recruited by World Class Industries in Hiawatha and became a Director of Manufacturing there, working beside his brother Pat. In 2013, he retired from World Class Industries.
Each of his job experiences provided him with new knowledge and qualities that guided and supported him to become the man he was: hardworking, caring, a good listener, honest, humble, dependable, trustworthy, and generous with his time and talents.
On March 6, 1976, he married the love of his life, Lana Stejskal in Cedar Rapids. On Feb. 14, 2006, he arranged a surprise renewal of their vows in one of their favorite vacation spots in the Dominican Republic. They enjoyed 45 together, filled with so much love and laughter.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Lana; sons, Brian (his partner Megan LaVelle, her two daughters Amira and Shay) of Iowa City and Todd (his partner Robert Williams) of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Michael (Cindy) of Medford, Ore., Pat (Sandi) of Cedar Rapids, Sharon Impastato-Hamrell of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Laurie Cobb of Zephyrhills, Fla.; stepsiblings, Cleon (Margie) Jones of La Habra, Calif., and Beverly (Tony) Damonte of Punta Gorda, Fla.; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Melvin A. Cobb and Ruth Cobb-Jones-Kaufman; a brother, Edward Jones; and his sister. Patricia Brownlie.
Rest in peace, our loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
Memorials may be directed to either the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA 52233; or to the Zach Johnson Foundation, P.O. Box 2336, Cedar Rapids, IA 52406.
