Lorraine Edith Haynes was born March 27, 1933, in McIntire, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Helen (Kriegel) Haynes. She attended schools in Tama graduating from Tama High School. On Dec. 5, 1950, she married the love of her life, Jack Paul Dunlap, in Des Moines. They were married for 65 years. The couple soon moved to Iowa City, where both Lorraine and Jack worked at Dean Jones DX Service Station on the corner of Burlington and Madison Streets, and later Lorraine worked for ACT. After this she and Jack owned and operated Gifts by Ja-Lor for many years.
Lor, as many would call her, enjoyed much in her life. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tri T and many bridge clubs over the years. She enjoyed working with her hands making all sorts of crafts such as cross stitch, needle point, and making flowers out of fabric or clay or even roses from plastic spoons. Lor and her mom often did these things together.
Lorraine often said how proud she was of her four children, but when she would see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren her face would light up and she would have a smile from ear to ear. Oh, how she loved them.
Lorraine is survived by her sons, Dennis Dunlap (special friend Peggy), Terry Dunlap (Patty) and Steven Dunlap (Sue); daughter, Diane Dunlap (Linda Myers); grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Nadia, Gayle Dombroski (Dan) and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jack and Drake Dombroski; and several nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Jack Badger; husband, Jack (November 17, 2016); two sisters and their husbands, Phyllis and Fred Stigers, Kathe and Larry Barham; and a nephew, Doug Stigers.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Mercy Iowa City Physicians, Dr. Leary and Dr. Ashby, and Dr. Ovrom as well as the many talented nurses at Mercy who gave her the highest quality professional care. We would also like to thank the staff at Briarwood Healthcare Center and Essence of Life Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion in Lorraine's final days.
