PAUL DAVID "DAVE" FLORY

Paul David "Dave" Flory, 88, of Oxford Junction, passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021, at St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids. His visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at St. Mark's in Oxford Junction. The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Dawson Funeral Services is caring for his family at this time.
Dave was born Dec. 20, 1932, in Logansport, Ind., to Byron and Mildred (Walker) Flory. Dave graduated from Logansport High School and then took a short course at Purdue University for Dairy Inspection. He came to Oxford Junction to work for his brother Eugene for Clinton Rendering Co. in 1952. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953. On Sept. 9, 1953, he was united in marriage to Marlene Ann Ingwersen. They moved to Alexandria, Va., shortly after marriage to continue his service with the U.S. Army, where he served on a gun crew protecting Washington, D.C. Dave served in the Army until 1955.
Dave drove truck until he farmed full time for 40 years. He also ran the BP Feed Store in Oxford Junction during that time. After retiring from farming, Dave drove a grain truck until he was 80 years old for a couple different companies.
Dave was a very caring husband to his wife Marlene, who suffered from various illnesses for several years.
Dave became a member of American Legion Wapsi Post #473 in 1956, where he was past commander and longtime chaplain. Dave was a member of Zealous Lodge #435 AF&AM since 1956, where he served as past master and had served as treasurer for about 25 years. Dave was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Oxford Junction, where he served on the church council. Dave was a long-time Oxford Township Trustee.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Brad (Julie) of Pella, Deb (Steve) Foege of Central City and Chip (Sue) of Denver, Iowa; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving brother, Joe (JeanAnn) Flory; sisters-in-law, Judy Flory and Judy (Richard) Cannon; and brother-in-law, Roger (Deb) Ingwersen.
Preceding Dave in death are his parents; wife; two brothers, Eugene and James; and one sister, Ellen Childress.
