Kris was born on Aug. 11, 1972, in Iowa City, and died unexpectedly on Jan. 23, 2021. She grew up in Lone Tree, but spent most of her life in Iowa City raising her family and simply enjoying life. Later, she returned to school, studying both radiology and surgical tech, before taking a break to be a nursing assistant. After several years, she returned to manage the convenience store, where she spent many years building a community of people who adored her.
Kris loved fiercely, laughed frequently and spread joy with her smile everywhere she went. Her integrity, perseverance, optimism and acceptance were contagious. She was a beautiful soul and will be missed deeply by the many people whose lives she touched.
Kris is survived by her husband, Bruce Kennedy; her mother, Cindy Larkin-Penney (Brett); five children, Brittany and Donovan Kimzey and Nichole, Michale and Tanya Kennedy; a grandson, Kingston Kennedy; a brother, Shawn Larkin (Becca); as well as a niece and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kris was preceded in death by her father, Bruce Larkin; a cousin, Tina Marie O'Leary; an uncle, Brian Larkin; and grandparents Ida and Jim Walsh and Vince and Lucielle Larkin.
A Celebration of Life will be held Aug. 20, 2021, at City Park, Iowa City, from 3 to 7 p.m.
