Sick (Child) Day

Jan. 16, 2008 2:46 am
Once again, I'm home with a sick child. This time it's Ella, who has the typical fever, cough and faucet nose. So far this winter our house has been the scene of walking pneumonia, stomach bugs, strep throat and various colds. I can't imagine how parents without health insurance cope with winter. Maybe they can take comfort from the president's firm stand against socialized medicine. That ought to help.
But I did learn a few things today.
Chet Culver is a sleep aid. Ella sat on my lap today as I watched the big lug deliver his first ever Condition of the State speech. It wasn't long until I looked down and she was asleep.
Christopher Rants is not a sleep aid. Ella awoke in the middle of the Rantsonator's rant about Culver's speech. Now, subconsciously, my daughter will hate anyone who wants to gut Iowa's right to work law.
I can stand Sesame Street and Curious George. Dragon Tales has got to go however. Call IPTV today.
Culver pre-empted Barney, which was the best thing about his speech. That and the stuff about health, or something.
Snooty-snob organic free-range spaghetti-os from the co-op do taste better than the old standby. I was shocked, shocked.
I can write a column even while a small someone desperately begs me to play Chutes and Ladders.
Ella does not have enough attention span to play Chutes and Ladders.
Note to self, less TV for Ella. More NPR.
Nap has abruptly ended. Must go.
