Yeah, about that QB thing . . .

No one is naming sources, but a lot of people sure are saying Ricky Stanzi is starting ahead of Jake Christensen at quarterback tomorrow for the Hawkeyes.
The highest of all sources told me this morning . . . well, he didn't tell me anything, so I don't really know what's going to happen. The highest of sources sort of batted away the question. Can't really blame Kirk Ferentz.
Logically, yeah, a Stanzi start would make sense. If you want a fair read on him, he needs a start against an FBS team. Thirty-some snaps against FCS Maine isn't going to get it done.
I do have some quotes, though.
Jake Christensen doesn't come to media opportunity Tuesday because of class conflicts. Stanzi does.
Here's what he said about his relationship with Christensen: "We're still pretty good friends. Nothing's really changed between us. I don't think there's anything there that's worth commenting about." . . . On helping each other, "There's really no back-and-forth between us about the job. We just do what we've always done. Try to help each other out. See things that we're not doing and try to point that out so the person can make improvements."
Here's Stanzi on the bittersweet nature of competition: "That is an obvious thing, someone is going to have to do something. We'll see. We're just playing it out right now."
How important is it to have a solid starter going into Iowa State? When does this become a distraction (like it's not already)? We might get some insight here Saturday.
That's it from me tonight. See ya tomorrow morning.
